In Memoriam
In 1999, Thornton Township High School, located in Harvey, IL, celebrated its 100th anniversary. Thornton is one of the oldest high schools in the state of Illinois and the oldest in the South Suburban area of Cook County. It is estimated that during the 125 years of its existance, Thornton has had over a quarter of a million students walk through the corridors of its educational institution.
One year after the school's Centennial Celebration, a group of alumni gathered together with Jayne Cosgrove, who coordinated the Centennial event, to develop a way in which all the alumni could stay informed and connected with each other. The suggestion of an independant, quarterly newsletter was brought forth, and The Thorntonites newsletter was born!
The Thorntonites newsletter and website are alumni sponsored with information dealing ONLY with T.T.H.S.alumni news and activites. Our listings of class and alumni reunions have assisted reunion committees on "getting the word out" and the positive response to our newsletter has kept letters, e-mails, photos and new subscriptions pouring in!
Since its conception twenty-five years ago, The Thorntonites newsletter has grown by leaps and bounds. Our subscriptions reach all 50 states and 2 foreign countries. Our subscribers include alumni from the classes of the 1930's to the 1990's, T.T.H.S. faculty, and relatives of past alumni.
The Thorntonites staff enjoys publishing the newsletter and website. Our efforts have reconnected people and brought much pleasure and important information to our T.T.H.S. alumni... which makes us feel, we are achieving our goal!
